You all are quite a hilarious lot. I take 3 or 4 week breaks at a time and I come back and what do I see?...Good Lord Sweet Jesus,...You fools are still bickering about this and that which amount to absolutely nothing but power trips and brownie points. You gotta drag in names and you gotta point fingers and you gotta use silverware. Hell! Get the tar and feathers. It's just pettiness and ugliness and nothing but pure stupidity. It's a puerile, juvenile, and immature commotion. To put it simply, you're KIDS!
...I talk of both camps. (yep, all y'alls!) and that goes with saying I'm no holier than thou...
When I got into this thing, this whole internet hullabaloo,..I got into it because I had the desire and passion to share my experience as a d/Deaf person so to better enrich the experience for the next generation of d/Deaf children. I've bounced through it all and yet, I won't say that makes me the qualified and knowledgeable person to speak to when referring to such things...
Each child is unique.
Each set of parents are different.
Each professional has their own opinion.
Come what may, but one thing is for sure, each child will experience audism on a regular basis regardless of speech and hearing ability. Don't like the word? Well,... deal with it. It's right there before your eyes and it is obvious. How do I know this? Because I've never failed to find a situation where I couldn't explain it to both hearing and deaf people in person. Again, y'all don't like the word? Oh well....I call it on them when they commit the crime. And that's a fact, Jack!
Not to shroud them with guilt but to expand their horizons.
Don't be ignorant.
Be ye aware.
As for a sound language development. I'll vouch for the bilingual approach that utilizes all skills and abilities in order to acquire fluency in both languages. I mean,..who wants to be a monolingual? That is like, so old and uncool. When referring to a d/Deaf child and the bilingual approach, the use of American Sign Language and English is very effective. Now, you wanna turn your neck and grind your teeth when I stress ASL instead of PSE, SEE, AVT, or you and me. Well,..the problem hasn't been the language or the modalities or the methods or the technologies but the fact that there are not enough good teachers out there who truly understand what a d/Deaf child needs.
And what good teachers there are, they either quit or phase out of there careers because of your ridiculous ideals and demands when it comes to IEP's and the like. That's the problem. These good teachers are silenced when IEPs that purport to meet the needs of Deaf children yet only fail to do so because of audistic ideological hoo-ey.
Shame!
It's not deafhood. (I'm sorry you don't get it) That's a given with anyone with hearing loss whether or not they identify with the word deaf. It's not the organization and the non-profits with their own goals and objectives. It's not the parents or the teachers. It's the idea that being d/Deaf is not acceptable.
That's is audism.
Again, you don't like the word?
Then get the fuck outta here!
