The naysayer will never understand Deafhood until they see past wanting something they do not have or losing something they do have, be it speech or hearing. You see, the naysayer, for as long as they respect English more than any other language and as long as they view American Sign Language as just a communication option, they will not understand Deafhood.
What to do with the likes of these people?
Ahh...jes ignore'm and carry on with the things that matter. I mean, if you look at it right and review the timeline, these people are really seeking out answers and wanting to find themselves. Perhaps when they do, they can start loving the rest of us who accept our being deaf, having a unique language, and culture of our own. That, me friends, is what Deafhood is all about.
But.....what does a fool like me know?
Naysayers of the deaf world unite :)
ReplyDeleteMorbid Meldrew,
ReplyDeleteSo you're promoting cultural and linguistic subjugation? The Cymri has experienced such under English rule. Yet you find nothing wrong with cultural/linguistic subjugation of natural signed languages including BSL?
Hmmmm...
MM, it is obvious that you're quite bitter to a point where Deaf Britons rejected you -- you had to resort to the internet and seek the ones that has similar interests with you in America.
ReplyDeleteI felt sorry for you, dude.

Not at all, just the fanaticism of deafhood which is discrimination, and I oppose discrimination masked as rights... we all have a right to disagree. It's taken 400 years plus to subjugate the welsh language and culture, and we are down to 3% of the whole now, but deaf, are STARTING at 3% also, welsh culture and language is NOT based on sensory loss... I don't find the correlation between welsh and sign culture at all, indeed BSL users in Wales demanded ENGLISH access, and objected to welsh being used because they couldn't understand it, go figure.... Deaf openly insisted sign language had a priority over the welsh language, then demanded access in a format they also insist is not theirs and you spend endless hours insisting is NOT your first 'language'... Deaf discriminated as much as the English did. If I Printed this in welsh what would you have said ?
ReplyDeleteMM - what would i have said??? hmmmm YAWN!
ReplyDeleteu sooooo don't get it. but its awight. i still love ya.
Jeffrey and Ridor - where are your hoods?
Peace,
Patti
I am probably the only one daft enough to respond to these deafhoody blogs .... Patti surely you are NOT patronising me.....lol I was always told to ignore these things then they will go away, so I broke my own rule responding really, but the rhetoric is so off the wall.... and its a no news in the deaf world day....
