"All the world’s a stage,

And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages." -Shakespeare

New Library Opens At New Mexico School for the Deaf

When entering the new library at New Mexico School for the Deaf, you will read these words upon the wall: “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” - Dr. Suess

“If you don’t have a library, students won’t learn any words, if you have a library, you’ll learn.” -Nirveli Smith, First Grader at NMSD, August 17, 2014

Get this: there is a section in this here library dedicated to Deaf Studies.
Lots of information. Plenty to LEARN. Might want to check it out and learn something about us here deaf folks. You'd be surprised. Maybe you'll go somewhere and understand why our heritage is important to us and why our language, American Sign Language is real and bona fide. Perhaps you'll learn that it's actually the ear of the heart and the eye of the soul that provides children with language development. Love can't be beat. When you teach a child in the least restrictive environment, you help them expand their horizons and encourage literacy visually rather than aurally alone. Give 'em all that helps and works. You see, Literacy in deaf children is greater among those who have parents that teach their children to read using American Sign Language. In that, they learn bilingually. Pretty cool, huh?

But, of course, I'm just sayin...
My opinions are my own and I am no expert here.
35 year Old Deaf Child.
